SharePoint, Collaboration Success Through Lens of Former Dell CTO

HiSoftware Inc. announced earlier this month the appointment of former Chief Technology Dell and Microsoft SharePoint MVP Chris McNulty as CTO of the company. With MCTS, MCSE, MSA and certification MVTSP, McNulty has over 20 years of experience in the software, including the monitoring of Dell solutions for SharePoint, Office 365, Yammer and related technologies.

He is also an occasional contributor to CMSWire recently wrote about the new models of collaboration in SharePoint and SharePoint key improvements over the past 10 years.CMSWire McNulty reached for a Q & A about his new role , his past role and Dell Working on the farm .

Nicastro : Tell us a bit ' of your most recent role and accomplishments that you are proud of their? McNulty: I was director of software technology and Dell, before the merger, Quest. I was particularly proud to be able to accelerate our pace of innovation in products, as evidenced by the awards received for the product in 2013 - the year SharePoint ( Windows IT Pro Gold , Silver and Bronze ) and Microsoft Partner of the Year (Applications office / SharePoint). Personally, I was very pleased to be awarded the Microsoft MVP for SharePoint.

Nicastro : And on paper first , what are some of the achievements that stand out and how? McNulty: Prior to joining Quest, who led the practice of KMA SharePoint, a Microsoft Gold Partner in New England. We carry many great solutions for our customers. Some of our partner extranets were exceptionally strong, and I was proud to be invited to help launch the SharePoint 2010 on stage with Microsoft in 2010 Nicastro . Why HiSoftware and your new business? What was the attraction?

McNulty. I spent most of my career working with Microsoft technologies for the management of information, analysis and collaboration, particularly SharePoint and Office 365 HiSoftware is better enforcement of race and security solution with a solid customer base.

Working here has given me the ' opportunity to enjoy my passion for the development and exchange of useful, valuable for a wider range of customers who have never known it before the group's solutions. Nicastro : In technical strategy of traction in all product lines and vertical markets , what are some of the early visions of things that are important to get started in this field ?

McNulty : Figure out what makes your business success , and the role of each platform - SharePoint , Office 365 , Documentum , Exchange , Yammer , Chatter , etc. - to help you achieve success .

Where people should work? What kind of communication is good, and you need to participate? Understanding the real business results helps to understand what adoption should be encouraged, and which behaviors should be reduced.

Nicastro : What are the steps organizations should take when it comes to securing a collaboration in SharePoint ? McNulty needs a BYOD strategy and clouds , users , otherwise it will invent their own solutions using tools of consumption , when the company loses control of their IP .

Nicastro : What examples you see out there in the SharePoint Governance and security in which organizations can get in trouble?

McNulty : The extremes : too much control leads to the abandonment of the users and the information still exists only in places where no one can find to govern. Too little control leads to dispersion, duplication and trust of the users under the information " right."
